Description

This senior-level position is within Sargent & Lundy's Consulting Group and will be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting generator interconnection applications and associated system impact studies
  • Transmission system planning and analysis, including studies in load flow, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients (EMT), to support a variety of clients such as project developers, and electric utilities
  • Performing transmission system technical analysis, which includes power flow studies and contingency analysis, stability analysis, voltage analysis, and EMT studies related to the impact of conventional energy generation, inverter-based generation, and high voltage direct-current (HVDC) on the transmission system

Qualifications

This position will be located in the UAE – local candidates are preferred.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree
  • A minimum of 8 years relevant engineering experience with an emphasis in power system modeling and analysis, including load flow analysis and time domain analysis
  • Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal and voltage constraints and to identify transfer capability limits
  • Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping
  • Experience using transmission planning software for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, TARA
  • Experience in Python scripting
  • Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD
  • Experience in harmonic analysis using DigSilient
  • Experience with regional utility standards e.g DEWA, Transco, Saudi Arabia National Grid

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering is preferred
  • Experience in modeling and application studies for HVDC converters and HVDC transmission lines
  • Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE or ASPEN
  • Experience in the interconnection process for large generators (>200MW)
  • Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE
  • Experience in Java Script, or other scripting languages

  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
